Writing a blog about personal style in the academy is a project that brings up issues of gender, performativity, heteronormativity, and class. These are all difficult and important issues that the authors of this blog struggle with in their lives and scholarship. It is exactly the difficulty–and often isolation–of work in the academy that makes an engagement with lovely things deeply rewarding for us. Beyond Tweed grew out of a realization that a bright coat or unexpected brooch can save an interminable day of meetings and grading.
